I first got connected to the website redesign effort as a volunteer in December 2021 and took on leading the project in October 2022 until March 2023. In large part that experince is what inspired me with the confidence to learn web development more professionally.
It was a collaborative effort where we gathered organizational feedback regarding the website and conducted card sorts, content audits and the like. Once we gathered all that, I sat down and charted the information architecture research that helped guide me in the transition from the old site to the one pictured above.
The main issues I fixed were organizing content according to the research of our users mental model and creating a more aesthetic style & layout that's easier to navigate. The layout was crafted using the new Wordpress template editor for better futureproofing and easier onboarding for future maintainers.
